In Lawn of the Dead, Benny's Grandma gave it to Ethan when Benny accidentally reanimated a collective deceased animals that became demons by the lack of souls and told Ethan to play it to lure them back to their house. However, Ethan's family was having dinner with an important client and his presence was demanded. They then gave it to Rory, who recorded the flute's music and accidentally lured the reanimated animals to Ethan's house with the player.
